When reading a book my imagination is constantly working to bring the book to life inside of my head. When watching the movie I’m able to see how accurate my imagination was. Being able to finally put a face to the character is either satisfactory or disappointing. Watching To Kill A Mockingbird I was shown that my imagination was similar to many others. Not only did it feel as if they had gone into my brain and chosen the perfect actors for the parts, but it seemed as if the actors portrayed their characters emotion to a T. The emotion in the courtroom was almost if not exactly how I imagined it to be. From Mayella being so defensive about everything, to Tom Robinson being such a soft spoken man, to the words that came out of Atticus’ mouth it was flawless. The only set back was that Mr. Ewell didn’t appear as haughty as he was in the book. Another difference was the fact that there was no Dolphus Raymond even though he had a key role in the book. It would have been interesting to see how that scene played out.
Boo Radley appeared a tad bit younger, but his personality and nervous ticks seemed like they were taken straight from the book. During the final scene of the movie where Scout is standing on the Radley’s porch I believe they should’ve turned it into a flashback scene. When read that part of the book my mind flashed through the entire story leading up to that scene. If they would’ve created the same effect I feel as if the scene would be more nostalgic. All in all, the movie was a wonderful adaption of the book. Having the music set the right mood and the actors portraying the characters the best they can is very important when turning a book into a movie and To Kill A Mockingbird did not disappoint.
